Can I book a common room or study space?

Yes. A music room or Boardroom can be booked. These are free of charge and can be booked for up to 2 hours on any given day.

How much is the laundry?

It is $4 per wash cycle and $3 per dry cycle.

How are disputes within a 4 bedroom apartment resolved?

If there are disputes within the apartment please contact village reception. Their management team can step in and help mediate an apartment meeting to find a solution to any problems.

Is there after hours support?

Student Village Melbourne has 24 hour management support, 7 days a week. There is always a team member available to assist in the event of an emergency.

Question 5

How often will my room be inspected?

Full apartment inspections will occur each semester. They will advise prior to these inspections occurring so that adequate time is available to clean the room and apartment.

Question 6

What happens if I lose my key or swipe key?

It's important to make sure keys are always known where they are. If the room key is misplaced there is a $20 cost to replace the swipe card and a $190 cost to replace the room key. These costs will be placed directly onto the account and can be paid via the resident portal.

What happens if I get locked out of my room?

During office hours please call or visit reception. Outside of these times their evening duty manager will be able to assist. Please remember that there is a $10 fee that applies should residents be locked out.

Can I have people stay over?

Accepted Answer

Although overnight guests are not encouraged, they do understand that someone may stay from time to time. Please make sure the guest is signed into reception upon arrival and signed out on departure. As per the village rules, a guest can stay no more than 2 consecutive nights in a 7 day period. Please ensure the village rules for guest and visitor behaviour are understood.

Can I choose my own contract dates?

All of their contract dates are fixed and unfortunately non-negotiable.

Question 10

What fees am I required to pay to secure a room at the village?

Accepted Answer

Before confirmation of the place, the BOND is required to be paid, which amounts to four weeks rent, and is held as security over the duration of the stay. It is refundable in full at the end of the contact. Provided there is no outstanding debt or damages done to the room.

Question 11

What is First Year Exemption? Am I eligible?

Accepted Answer

If a domestic first year student applying through UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC they may be eligible for First Year Exemption. Eligibility applies if: Did not get accepted to the university Were accepted to another university The course is now wholly offered online (ie not being taught internally) If the contract has not commenced the Bond will be refunded. If the contract has started, residents are liable for rent up to the date of notification of moving out of the village. The Bond will be refunded. Please note the First Year Exemption policy will not apply where a university offer has been accepted but the studies have been deferred or withdrawn from. They must be notified in writing (resident notification) within 5 days of the UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC Main Round offers release date (generally around late January – refer to the UAC / VTAC / QTAC / TISC website for actual dates) to claim the First Year Exemption policy.

How far is the village from the university?

The village is at most a 10 minute walk to the main university campus. It is also right across the road from the Melbourne Law School and a 5 minute walk to the library.
