The Kennesaw State acceptance rate is 79.4%, and that figure describes only the applicants who had already cleared six separate requirements before anyone looked at them. Kennesaw State admitted 26,622 students from 33,513 applicants for Fall 2025 and enrolled 9,537, a yield of 35.8%. There is no waitlist.
What makes KSU unusual is not the rate. It is that admission here is almost entirely mechanical, and Kennesaw State says so in writing. Its own Common Data Set records that academic GPA and test scores are "very important" and that rigour of the secondary school record, class rank, essays, recommendations and every non-academic factor are "not considered." Not weighted lightly. Not considered.
So there is nothing to persuade anyone of. There are six gates, they are cumulative, and you clear all of them or you do not get in. Here they are in the order they apply.

Gate 1: The 17 Curriculum Units Behind the Kennesaw State Acceptance Rate
Before GPA, before scores, Georgia requires a specific set of courses. The University System of Georgia Required High School Curriculum is 17 units:
- 4 units of English
- 4 units of mathematics
- 4 units of science
- 3 units of social science
- 2 units of the same foreign language, or American Sign Language, or a USG-approved computer science course
This gate is absolute, and it is also the one that decides Gate 2, because your GPA is recalculated using only these courses. The A you earned in a class outside the 17 units does not count toward the number KSU uses. Neither does the C.
Students who discover this in their final year cannot fix it. If you are reading this early, the actionable item is the two units of the same foreign language, which is the requirement students most often come up short on.
Gate 2: A Recalculated GPA of 2.5
The minimum recalculated high school GPA is 2.5 through Summer 2027, rising to 3.0 for Fall 2027 and beyond.
That change is worth circling if you are currently a sophomore or junior. The bar moves by half a grade point for anyone entering from Fall 2027.
For context, the students who actually enrolled in Fall 2025 averaged a 3.48 recalculated GPA, reported by 98.49% of them. The distribution:
| Recalculated GPA | Share of enrolled freshmen |
| 4.00 | 6.17% |
| 3.75 to 3.99 | 21.35% |
| 3.50 to 3.74 | 24.69% |
| 3.25 to 3.49 | 23.75% |
So more than half the class sits at 3.50 or above against a 2.5 minimum. Clearing the gate and being typical are different things.
Gate 3: Submitting a Test Score At All
Kennesaw State is test-required, and this is where applicants most often go wrong, because the assumption that every university went test-optional has outlived the policy.
KSU's own admissions FAQ answers "No" to the question of whether it is test-optional. Dual enrollment applicants with fewer than 30 transferable hours must also submit scores.
One honest complication. The University System of Georgia's December 2025 announcement describes KSU as test-optional for the 2025-26 academic year at a 3.2 GPA threshold, and as SAT or ACT required from Fall 2026. Kennesaw State's own page states test-required with no cycle caveat. Both are official sources and they disagree. The safe course is to submit a score, since no pathway is harmed by having one, and to confirm with the admissions office if you are relying on a waiver.
Note how few enrolled students actually submitted: 41% an SAT and 12% an ACT. That is not evidence of a test-optional policy so much as of how many enter through transfer, dual enrollment and other routes.
Gate 4: The Subscore Minimums, Which Bind More Than You Expect
A composite score is not enough. KSU sets floors on individual sections:
| Test | Minimum subscores |
| SAT | 500 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 490 Mathematics |
| ACT | 18 English or Reading and 18 Mathematics |
Scores are superscored within a test type, so KSU takes your best EBRW and best Math across SAT sittings. SAT and ACT are never combined. From Fall 2027 the Classic Learning Test is accepted at 39 Verbal and 16 Quantitative.
The SAT floors total 990 combined, and that total matters for the next gate.
Gate 5: A Freshman Index of 2,200, Which Almost Never Decides Anything
Georgia's public universities admit on a formula called the Freshman Index. Kennesaw State's minimum is 2,200. Georgia State's, for comparison, is 2,500, the highest in the system alongside Augusta University.
The USG formula:
- SAT route: 500 × GPA + 1.06 × (EBRW + Math) − 74
- ACT route: 500 × GPA + (ACT composite × 42) + 88
Here is something worth knowing that no guide to the Kennesaw State acceptance rate appears to state, and it is straightforward arithmetic on the published formula.
At KSU's own minimum GPA, the Freshman Index is not the binding constraint. Run it: at a 2.5 GPA, reaching 2,200 requires an SAT of about 966. But Gate 4 already demands 500 plus 490, which is 990. The subscore floors are stricter than the index. And at a 3.0 GPA, the index needs only about an SAT of 730, which is far below the subscore floor.
So for essentially every applicant who clears Gates 2 and 4, Gate 5 is already cleared. The Freshman Index sounds like the hard test and is actually the easy one. The gates that genuinely eliminate people are the curriculum units, the recalculated GPA, and the section minimums. That calculation is ours, from the published formula, rather than a KSU statement.
Gate 6: Your Programme, If It Is Architecture
One programme sets its own higher bar:
| * | Standard KSU | Architecture |
| Recalculated GPA | 2.5 | 3.0 |
| SAT | 500 EBRW, 490 Math | 500 EBRW, 570 Math |
| ACT | 18 English or Reading, 18 Math | 18, 23 Math |
An 80-point jump in required SAT Maths, and an 80-point difference between being admitted to KSU and being admitted to the programme you wanted.
What the KSU Acceptance Rate Tells You Once the Gates Are Understood
Almost nothing about difficulty, and quite a lot about scale.
Kennesaw State enrolled 51,375 students in Fall 2025, up 7.4%, making it the third largest institution in the University System of Georgia behind Georgia Tech and Georgia State. Undergraduate enrollment is 46,069. Out-of-state enrollment grew 16% to 2,362, dual enrollment grew 42.9% to 1,940, and first-generation undergraduates grew 10.2% to 18,042.
That last figure is the one worth sitting with: more than 18,000 first-generation undergraduates, which is a larger first-generation population than the total enrollment of most universities in Georgia. KSU holds Carnegie R2 classification.
Yield is 35.8%, so roughly two of every three admitted students enrol elsewhere. A 79.4% admit rate at that yield is a capacity and conversion figure rather than a standards figure.
Compare with the neighbours in Colleges in Georgia and with Georgia State's considerably stiffer 2,500 Freshman Index in Georgia State Acceptance Rate.
What It Costs Once You Are Through
2026-27, based on 15 credit hours:
| Item | In-state | Out-of-state |
| Tuition | $5,760 | $21,660 |
| Required fees | $1,188 | $1,188 |
| Housing | $9,332 | $9,332 |
| Food | $5,016 | $5,016 |
| Books and supplies | $1,500 | $1,500 |
| Transportation | $2,222 | $2,222 |
| Personal | $3,995 | $3,995 |
| Loan fees | $64 | $65 |
| Total | $29,077 | $44,977 |
Per credit hour: $192 in-state, $722 out-of-state.
Housing and food together are $14,348 against in-state tuition and fees of $6,948. Accommodation costs more than twice tuition for a Georgia resident, and for a Georgian holding the HOPE Scholarship, which pays tuition and not housing, it is effectively the entire cost of attending.
The fee composition, from the USG mandatory fee table, is: Athletics $211 per semester, Recreation Center $92, Sports Park $81, Technology $55, Transportation $55, Health $51, Student Activity $46, Parking $30, Wellness $3. Those figures are FY2026 and total $624 a semester, slightly above the $1,188 annual figure KSU publishes for 2026-27, so treat them as composition rather than current amounts. Fees actually fell for in-person students at Kennesaw State this year, one of only thirteen USG institutions where that happened.
The Two-Campus Decision, Worth $1,710 a Year
Kennesaw State operates two campuses, Kennesaw and Marietta, and tuition and fees are identical at both. Only housing differs, and it differs enough to matter.
The cheapest bed on either campus is a double in Howell Hall at Marietta, $3,054 per semester. The most expensive is a one-bedroom in University Village Suites at Kennesaw, $5,605 per semester. On KSU's own off-campus cost of attendance, Kennesaw housing is budgeted at $12,203 against Marietta's $10,493, which makes Marietta $1,710 cheaper a year for an identical degree at identical tuition.
Two time-sensitive notes: The Summit II opens for Fall 2026, and KSU Place is closed for renovation through 2026-27, reopening Fall 2027. Housing supply is moving, which is exactly when comparing against the surrounding market pays: student housing near Kennesaw State University.
Who Kennesaw State Suits
It suits you if you have the 17 required curriculum units, a recalculated GPA of 2.5 or better, and section scores of at least 500 and 490. You will be admitted, and no essay, recommendation or extracurricular record is required to make it happen.
It suits you if you are a Georgia resident with a 3.0 GPA and four rigour credits, because HOPE covers most of a $6,948 tuition and fee bill, and a 3.7 GPA with a 1200 SAT brings Zell Miller and covers all of it.
It suits you if you are first-generation, since KSU enrolls more than 18,000 first-generation undergraduates and has built scale around that population.
It does not suit you if your strength is your personal statement, your leadership record or an upward grade trend through a demanding curriculum. KSU's own filing says it does not consider any of those, so bring your application to a university that reads them.
It does not suit you if you are missing the two units of the same foreign language, or if you are entering from Fall 2027 with a recalculated GPA below 3.0, since both are absolute.
It does not suit you if you want architecture without a 3.0 GPA and an SAT Maths score of 570.
The Bottom Line
The Kennesaw State acceptance rate of 79.4% is the rate among people who already satisfied six cumulative requirements: 17 units of required high school curriculum, a recalculated GPA of 2.5 rising to 3.0 from Fall 2027, a submitted test score, section minimums of 500 and 490 on the SAT, a Freshman Index of 2,200 that our arithmetic says almost never binds, and a stiffer bar for architecture. Clear all six and you are in, with no essay read. Miss one and the 79.4% is irrelevant to you. Then pick Marietta over Kennesaw for housing if you can, because that is worth $1,710 a year at identical tuition.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Kennesaw State acceptance rate?
It is 79.4% for Fall 2025, from 26,622 admitted out of 33,513 applicants, with 9,537 enrolling, calculated from Kennesaw State's own Common Data Set. Yield was 35.8%, so roughly two in three admitted students enrol elsewhere, and KSU maintains no waitlist.
What is the KSU acceptance rate and what GPA do I need?
The KSU acceptance rate is 79.4%, but it applies only to applicants who have met the published minimums. You need a recalculated high school GPA of at least 2.5 through Summer 2027, rising to 3.0 for Fall 2027 and beyond, calculated only on the 17 units of the University System of Georgia Required High School Curriculum. Enrolled students averaged 3.48, with more than half at 3.50 or above.
Is Kennesaw State test-optional?
Kennesaw State's own admissions FAQ answers no, with no cycle caveat. The University System of Georgia's December 2025 announcement describes KSU as test-optional for 2025-26 at a 3.2 GPA threshold and test-required from Fall 2026, so two official sources disagree. Submit a score, since no pathway is harmed by having one, and confirm with admissions if you intend to rely on a waiver. Among enrolled freshmen, 41% submitted an SAT and 12% an ACT.
What SAT score does Kennesaw State require?
Section minimums of 500 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 490 Mathematics, or ACT 18 in English or Reading plus 18 in Mathematics. Scores are superscored within a test type but SAT and ACT are never combined. For context, enrolled students scored 1010 to 1210 on the SAT with a median of 1100, and 19 to 26 on the ACT with a median of 22. Architecture requires 570 in SAT Mathematics.
What is the Freshman Index and does Kennesaw State's 2,200 minimum matter?
The Freshman Index is the University System of Georgia admission formula: 500 times GPA, plus 1.06 times combined SAT reading and maths, minus 74. Kennesaw State's minimum is 2,200. By our arithmetic on that formula it rarely decides anything, because a 2.5 GPA needs only about an SAT of 966 to reach 2,200 while the section minimums already require 990, and a 3.0 GPA needs only about 730. The curriculum units, GPA and subscore floors are the constraints that actually bind.
Does Kennesaw State read essays or recommendations?
No. Kennesaw State's Common Data Set records that academic GPA and standardised test scores are very important, and that rigour of the secondary school record, class rank, essays, recommendations and all non-academic factors are not considered. Admission is close to a pure arithmetic threshold, so there is no application narrative to construct.
How much does Kennesaw State cost per year?
For 2026-27 at 15 credit hours, tuition is $5,760 in-state and $21,660 out-of-state, with $1,188 in required fees. Total cost of attendance on campus is $29,077 in-state and $44,977 out-of-state, including $9,332 housing and $5,016 food. Per credit hour the rate is $192 in-state and $722 out-of-state. Housing and food together exceed in-state tuition and fees by more than two to one.
Is it cheaper to live at the Kennesaw or Marietta campus?
Marietta, by $1,710 a year, at identical tuition and fees. The cheapest bed on either campus is a double in Howell Hall at Marietta at $3,054 per semester, against a high of $5,605 for a one-bedroom in University Village Suites at Kennesaw. KSU's own off-campus cost of attendance budgets Kennesaw housing at $12,203 and Marietta at $10,493. Note that KSU Place is closed for renovation through 2026-27 and The Summit II opens Fall 2026.
