What is Nanyang House?
NTU's own website describes Nanyang House as a student activities building along Nanyang Hill on the main campus. It is a base for student organisations, which can book its meeting rooms, seminar rooms, function room, dance and music studios, a shooting gallery and a billiard room. Its main building is open 10.00am to 10.00pm Monday to Saturday and 10.00am to 6.00pm on Sundays and public holidays. NTU notes that it closes during revision and examination weeks. Map listings give the address as 12 Nanyang Hill, Singapore 637663.
We found no evidence of bedrooms, rental rates or tenancy availability at Nanyang House, so this guide makes no accommodation claims about it.
Other "Nanyang" names that are easy to confuse with it:
- Nanyang Executive Centre (NEC): a 150-room facility at 60 Nanyang View on the main campus. NTU says its accommodation is reserved for eligible NTU guests, such as visiting academics, alumni and executive learners.
- NTU faculty housing: clusters such as Nanyang Grove and Nanyang Heights are for faculty, not students.
- Nanyang Hostel: third-party listing sites place a hostel of this name at 128 Prinsep Street in the city centre, within walking distance of SMU. It is not NTU-run, and we have not verified its availability or terms.

Which NTU campus will you commute to?
NTU's main campus is at 50 Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798, in the west of Singapore. NTU also has a medical campus in Novena and a smaller satellite site, NTU@one-north. Most undergraduates study at the main campus, so the options below focus on it. Check your offer letter and timetable before choosing a location.
Housing options near NTU
On-campus halls
NTU says new students are guaranteed on-campus housing for their first two years of study, and senior students must take part in hall and co-curricular activities to be considered for later years. For 2026/27 entrants, NTU's freshmen page listed an application window of 2 to 22 June 2026. Expect a similar yearly cycle, and confirm dates on NTU's housing page.
NTU publishes hall rates per resident, per month, and they vary by hall and room type. Examples checked on NTU's hall pages for 2026/27:
- A non-air-conditioned double in Hall 1 is S$412.
- An air-conditioned single in Hall 11 is S$642.
- Media reports in July 2026 said an air-conditioned single in Hall 5 had risen to S$657.
NTU's Hall 10 page says rates include utilities except air-conditioning, which is pay-per-use. Check each hall's own page, and check NTU's graduate housing pages if you are a postgraduate, as rates differ.
Off-campus near the main campus
NTU's Office of Campus Housing says nearby housing estates include Jurong West, Boon Lay and Jurong East. It lists portals such as PropertyGuru, Edgeprop and Nestia, and providers such as Coliwoo, yo:HA Hostel and Westwood Hostel. NTU also reminds students to carry out due diligence and says its list is only a guide.
HDB flats (government-built flats rented out by their owners) are a common option. On 28 October 2026, listings we sampled on 99.co for Jurong West HDB rooms showed asking rents from about S550toS1,400 a month. Those are individual listings, not averages, and they change daily.
A central student hostel on the same MRT line
If you prefer a central base, MDIS Residences @ Stirling in Queenstown is one verified option. NTU's alternative housing page lists it, and it is operated by MDIS (Management Development Institute of Singapore). Acolyte Living lists it on its platform. We do not claim that Acolyte Living operates it.
- Facilities (MDIS): gym, canteen, Wi-Fi, a 24-hour convenience store, 24-hour security and a free shuttle to Queenstown MRT.
- Rooms (Acolyte listing, 28 October 2026): room types range from a quad room at S894amonthtocorneranddeluxeroomsatS1,683. Single rooms start at S962anddoublesatS1,099.
- Commute: Queenstown (EW19) and Boon Lay (EW27) are on the same East–West Line, eight stops apart by station number. From Boon Lay, bus 179 or 199 runs to campus. We haven't verified door-to-door journey times, so test the route with a live planner.

| NTU hall | Single or double rooms | On campus | S$412–657 per resident a month (NTU hall pages and press, 2026/27) | Rates are nett; air-conditioning may be pay-per-use |

How to compare your options
Commute and location
Count the MRT stops and the bus leg. NTU's visitor page names Boon Lay (bus 179 or 199) and Pioneer (bus 179 or the free Campus Rider) as the nearest stations. Jurong Region Line stations are under construction on campus, so check LTA for confirmed opening dates.
Room type, privacy and facilities
Single rooms cost more than shared ones. Check what is included: air-conditioning, a washer, a kitchen, Wi-Fi and study space. For HDB rooms, the owner must continue to live in the flat while renting out a bedroom, so you will share a home with your landlord.
Rent, bills, contract and deposit
Ask whether utilities and air-conditioning are included, and what deposit and notice period apply. HDB rentals must run for at least six months. For non-Malaysian non-citizens, the maximum is two years. Our student housing budget guide for Singapore covers typical deposits and air-conditioning costs.
Safety, maintenance and tenancy terms
Never transfer money before you have a signed tenancy agreement. Do a video viewing if you can't visit in person. Confirm who handles repairs, and check the Council for Estate Agencies' (CEA) checklist for renting an HDB bedroom.
Living costs for students in Singapore
NTU's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering publishes a monthly estimate for graduate students (the page is undated). It is based on feedback from current students and graduates.
| Item | Estimated monthly cost (NTU EEE estimate, undated) |
| On-campus graduate housing | S$400–600 |
| Meals | S$450–630 |
| Personal expenses | S$230–330 |
| Transport within Singapore | S$150–250 |
| Telecommunications | From S$50 |
| Total | S$1,300–1,600 |
This table is a graduate on-campus baseline. Private rooms cost more, as the figures above show. Acolyte Living's own guide suggests a total budget of S1,500toS2,500 a month, depending on housing.
For transport, NTU undergraduates can apply for an undergraduate concession card through SimplyGo. Postgraduates are not eligible for that card. TheSmartLocal (page dated 16 October 2026) lists university-student monthly passes at S55.50forbuses,S48 for trains and S$81 for both, matching LTA's December 2023 poster. Check SimplyGo for current prices.
Which option should you choose?
If you secure a hall place, living on campus keeps both cost and commute low. If you miss out, compare an HDB room in the Jurong area against a hostel on the East–West Line, and total up rent, utilities and transport rather than rent alone. Whichever you pick, confirm availability, terms and fees directly before paying.
