Choosing where to study is one thing. Working out how the university actually runs, where you will live and how you will get to class is another. This Nanyang Technological University student guide covers NTU Singapore's campus, its digital services, transport, student life and the housing choices students face.

How to read this guide. Details marked Verified (NTU) were checked against NTU's own website on 28 October 2026. Anything marked General advice is practical guidance, not an official statement. Fees, rates, opening hours and rules change, so confirm them with NTU before committing money.

NTU at a glance

A short history (Verified, NTU and public records)

NTU grew out of the Nanyang Technological Institute, which took over the former Nanyang University campus in the early 1980s. The land was donated by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, and NTU's own news pages recognise that history. The former Nanyang University Library and Administration Building is now a national monument.

Colleges and schools (Verified, NTU)

NTU's website lists these academic units:

  • College of Business (Nanyang Business School)
  • College of Computing and Data Science
  • College of Engineering
  • College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
  • College of Science
  • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
  • NTU Honours College
  • National Institute of Education
  • S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies

Your own school or college decides where most of your classes happen, which matters later when you compare commutes.

NTU campus and facilities

Main campus and other sites

Verified (NTU). The main campus is at 50 Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798, in the west of Singapore. NTU also lists the National Institute of Education at 1 Nanyang Walk and the Novena Campus at 11 Mandalay Road. NTU has a page for NTU@one-north under "Leisure & Dining", with an Executive Centre sub-page. Check with your school whether any of your classes or research sit outside the main campus. Our own research found nothing confirming student housing at one-north, so do not assume it.

Student spaces

Verified (NTU). NTU's "Recreational Spaces & Facilities" section lists the Student Activities Centre, Global Lounge, Yunnan Corner, the Sports & Recreation Centre and Nanyang Auditorium. NTU also has a Library, a Campus Clubhouse, and an F&B, retail and services directory. Halls have their own facilities, such as reading rooms, laundry, lounges and pantries.

Nanyang House is a facility, not accommodation

This is a common mix-up, so it is worth being direct. Verified (NTU): Nanyang House is on Nanyang Hill and is described as a hub for student activities. Student organisations can book its meeting rooms, seminar rooms, function room, dance and music studios, shooting gallery and billiard room. It is not a place to live. If you are searching for "Nanyang House accommodation", you want NTU's halls or the private options below.

Student digital services

Your NTU accounts

Verified (NTU). New students receive a network account, which NTU says is used for e-services, e-learning, library databases, campus computers and campus Wi-Fi. You also have a separate Office 365 EDU account for email. NTU warns that the two passwords are not synced, so changing one does not change the other. Follow NTU's own activation instructions, and never share your login details.

The NTU intranet

Verified (NTU). The Student Intranet is described as the starting point for student services, information and resources. It brings academic, administrative and student life information together. NTU's pages note that some internal information has moved off the public website and onto the intranet. This includes things like hall floor plans.

NTULearn (often searched as "NTU Blackboard")

NTU's e-learning platform is called NTULearn, and students use it for course materials and lecture recordings. NTU-related material points to Blackboard's help guides for it. The exact login address and layout can change, so start from the Student Intranet rather than a bookmarked third-party link.

Be careful with search results. "NTU" is also the abbreviation for other universities, including Nottingham Trent University and Navajo Technical University, and both have their own Blackboard pages. Make sure any guidance you follow is for Nanyang Technological University.

Getting around

Verified (NTU). NTU maintains pages on its campus bus shuttle, car parks, and MRT construction on campus, including latest updates and a station and work-site page. We have not quoted routes or timings here because they change. Check those pages before you plan a daily commute.

General advice. Campus is large, so a ten-minute walk on a map can feel longer in Singapore's heat. When you compare homes, test the real door-to-class journey at the time you would travel.

NTU student life

Verified (NTU). NTU's "Student Life" section covers clubs and societies, sports, community engagement, inclusion and integration, residential education, wellbeing and student services. It also covers the Work Study Scheme and leadership development. Residential education means that living in a hall is not just a bed. It comes with a built-in community, activities and mentors. If you live off campus, you will need to make a little more effort to join in, so choose a location you can realistically travel from for evening events.

Where students live: NTU student accommodation and options near NTU

OptionWhat is verifiedWhat to weigh (general advice)
NTU halls of residenceManaged by NTU. Rates are nett and include utilities except air-conditioning, which is pay-per-use. Halls are mixed-gender, with separate floors or wings.Convenience and community versus availability. Apply and check eligibility early.
Private rental (HDB or private housing)NTU says nearby estates include Jurong West, Boon Lay and Jurong East, and points to HDB and URA rental rules.More independence, more admin. Check rules and scams carefully.
Private hostels and co-livingNTU lists some third-party providers as a guide only and does not endorse them.Contract length, deposits and what is included vary a lot.
Nanyang Executive CentreA 150-room on-campus facility for short stays.Designed for short or extended visits, not necessarily a full-year home.

On-campus halls

Verified (NTU). The Office of Campus Housing manages undergraduate and graduate housing. As one example, Hall 7 on Nanyang Crescent had these monthly per-resident rates for the academic years shown:

Hall 7 room typeAY2026/27 (S$)AY2027/28 (S$)
Single (non air-con)635660
Double (non air-con)466485
Single (air-con)685710
Single en-suite (air-con)835860

NTU notes that some halls may be renovated and their rates will then stop applying, and that rates differ by hall. Treat the table as an example of how pricing is presented, not a quote.

Off-campus options

Verified (NTU). NTU advises starting your search at least two months before classes begin. It also says that if you are overseas, you should finalise housing before you arrive in Singapore. It warns students to do due diligence to avoid rental scams, and points to the CEA public register, the ScamShield app and the government's rental scam guidance.

General advice. If you are applying from abroad, Acolyte Living's guide on how to secure student accommodation in Singapore as an international student walks through the process from the application stage.

Acolyte Living's Singapore listings

Acolyte Living does list Singapore properties, and you can browse the Singapore listings shown for NTU searches. Please read these carefully. At the time of checking, the addresses on that page were in central and eastern Singapore, not in the Jurong West or Boon Lay area NTU highlights as nearby. That does not make them unsuitable, but it does mean the commute to NTU is a real factor to measure, not assume.

How to compare accommodation near NTU

Use the same checklist for every option so the comparison is fair.

  • Location and commute: Work out the actual journey time from the front door to your main classes, at the time you would travel. Include walking, waiting and any transfers.
  • Rent: Compare the monthly rent, but also the deposit, the agent or admin fees, and how rent is billed.
  • What is included: Check whether utilities, internet, cleaning and air-conditioning are in the rent. NTU halls, for example, charge air-conditioning separately.
  • Room type: Single, double or shared affects both price and privacy. Check the room size and whether the bathroom is private or shared.
  • Amenities: Look for study space, laundry, a kitchen, security and the quality of Wi-Fi.
  • Contract terms: Read the length of the contract, the notice period, the cancellation and refund rules, and what happens to your deposit. Do not sign anything you do not understand, and keep every agreement in writing.

Budgeting for NTU

General advice. Build your budget from four parts: housing, food, transport and one-off set-up costs. Housing is usually the largest, and the cheapest advertised rent is not always the cheapest option once utilities and commuting are added. Acolyte Living's student housing budget guide for Singapore explains what drives price differences between housing types. For NTU's own fees, use the tuition and miscellaneous fees pages on NTU's website, because we have not quoted figures here.

A practical housing checklist

  1. Check whether you are eligible for NTU housing and note the application deadline.
  2. If you do not get a hall place, begin your off-campus search at least two months before term.
  3. Confirm any agent against the CEA public register.
  4. Never pay a deposit before seeing evidence that the landlord or provider is genuine.
  5. Test your commute before committing.
  6. Ask for the full contract in advance and read the cancellation terms.
  7. Keep copies of every message, receipt and agreement.

Conclusion

A good NTU experience starts with understanding how the university works. Learn your accounts and the Student Intranet, treat Nanyang House as a student facility rather than a home, and use NTU's own pages for rates, rules and transport. Then compare housing on commute, total cost, room type, amenities and contract terms, and start early. If you want to see a wider range of student homes in Singapore, you can use the listings linked above, while keeping in mind that distance to NTU needs to be checked for each one.

Frequently asked questions

1. Where is NTU Singapore's main campus?

The main campus is at 50 Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798, in the west of Singapore. NTU also has the National Institute of Education at 1 Nanyang Walk and the Novena Campus at 11 Mandalay Road.

2. What is the NTU intranet and how do I access it?

The Student Intranet is NTU's starting point for student services, information and resources. You sign in with your NTU network account after activating it as NTU instructs. If you struggle to log in, contact NTU's IT Service Desk rather than using third-party sites.

3. Is "NTU Blackboard" the same as NTULearn?

NTULearn is the name of NTU's e-learning platform, and NTU-related material refers to Blackboard's help guides for it. People often search "NTU Blackboard" for the same thing. Confirm the current login route on the Student Intranet.

4. Is Nanyang House a place to live?

No. Nanyang House is a student activities facility with meeting rooms, studios, a shooting gallery and a billiard room. For housing, see NTU's halls or the private options in this guide.

5. Should I live on campus or off campus?

It depends on availability, budget and how much independence you want. Halls offer convenience and a built-in community, while private options can give more choice but need more checking. Compare commute, total cost, room type, amenities and contract terms for each.

6. When should I start looking for off-campus housing?

NTU advises starting at least two months before classes begin, and finalising your arrangements before you arrive if you are overseas.

7. Does Acolyte Living have accommodation near NTU?
