Straits Garden

Been here for 2 years now and it was a really nice place to stay, the location is very safe and nothing bad has ever happened even past midnight. The staff are very friendly and the manager Tracey is amazing, and whenever there is a problem within the room it is fixed immediately the next day. Really recommend for other students to stay here, and as a young adult just make sure you keep your key with you all times so you won’t have to complain about the lockout fee 😂

living here has been amazing. the communal and personal spaces are really cosy and comfortable. plus there’s great access to shops and transport.

Fits exactly what I was looking for in an accommodation. It’s extremely close to the shops and had great access to the high street. It is a great walking distance to the university. The staff are always friendly and quick to help with any queries or requests. I couldn’t recommend a better place !

Strait Garden is a great student hostel to stay in. The room is quite spacious, and I feel safe staying here. One of its greatest strengths is its accessibility—it's located very close to several grocery shops and restaurants, which makes daily errands incredibly convenient. The manager, Tracey, is very supportive, responsive, and helpful in addressing some of the minor issues I faced. She is also very approachable and always greets residents warmly, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Her presence adds a personal touch that makes the hostel feel more like home.

Decent place but I completely agree with the comments regarding the property manager, Tracey. She’s quite unprofessional and can be rude depending on the ethnicity of the people she’s dealing with. The place also doubles as a hotel which means at times there’s tourists sharing communal spaces with the students. Additionally, reception is not 24/7 it’s 9 to 5 on weekdays and closed on weekends. If you forget your key, you’re expected to call the main helpline and are charged with a £200 lockout fee which makes no sense. They overcharge on everything, including the rent of the room and you don’t get any extra facilities, just the bare minimum.

Normally i do not think to post reviews for places, however this time i think it is worthwhile for me to give an honest opinion (which a lot of people in this accommodation could agree with) about the management of this place. I think despite not having any security in place 24/7 (despite the price you pay for) or having to pay a £70 fee every time you get locked out in a PRIVATE accommodation (which this does not happen in any other private accom in Egham) the main concern of this place is the management. I am speaking on behalf of a lot of residents as well as non residents who are just guests of the residents, Tracey is not only unwelcoming but also very unprofessional and rude. On many occasions she treats and speaks to residents and non-residents however she likes without considering the fact that she is only a worker who is paid to provide good customer service nothing else. Unless you work hard to be nice to her that is the only time she will show somewhat slight of a respectful attitude which is VERY rare. However, no paying resident to this place should have to feel like that. If you are considering to book this place i would think twice as not only are non residents & residents complaining about her behaviour but so is close by local shop owners who have pointed her disrespectful manner out. To have in mind, there is a lack of workers so you would have to deal with her on a daily basis as she is a walking CCTV on everyone. There needs to be change of management of this place if they would like to do well - as other private accommodations have lovely customer service and behaviour which is something Tracey would need extreme training on. Looking at the positive reviews of this place on the management its either AI bots commenting or they got paid because its hard to believe.

Strongly not recommended, especially for my experience with the staff member Tracey. It is surprising that such bureaucratic practices and a sense of unequal treatment still appear in 21st-century Britain, especially at Straits Garden. I was planning to rent an apartment in London, but Tracey rejected our landlord reference without providing a clear explanation. When we asked for clarification, her response was dismissive. Tracey said, “Can’t understand the complicated English words? Then check it on Google.” If you are comfortable living in accommodation managed in this manner, then that is your choice. However, if you need to move legally and smoothly, Tracey may act in a way that disrupts your plans and causes unnecessary obstacles. I also don’t understand those who give Tracey very positive comments. Perhaps if you maintain a very flattering attitude every day, then of course she will treat you well. Student accommodation should represent fairness, equality, inclusiveness, and respect. However, Straits Garden gave me the opposite feeling — full of bureaucracy, unequal treatment, and exclusion. You might think your neighbours are nice — and I agree, because the rent here is almost twice that of other areas, attracting mostly well-educated student residents. But for the parents paying such high rent, please do not let your children feel pressured or intimidated by management. If your child is naturally gentle or kind, they may feel bullied by certain staff members.

I graduated this year and I already miss Straits the most out of everything! The atmosphere is lovely, and the rooms are very spacious. All staff are super lovely - Tracey is brilliant and is super understanding. Great location too.

Nice place but the manager, Tracey, is rude and unprofessional, especially to a certain cohort of students. You would think all individuals renting here would be treated the same but that is not the case. I am shocked that this kind of behaviour persists in the modern day.

It was a fabulous year I spent in the straits garden. Very nice staff, great atmosphere, location, service. The manger Trecay was always supportive, nice and friendly with the students but strictly she put all equally under rules which personally loved that way to make the space for all and well organized. However, in spite of disliked the emergency service especially when you left your key in the room, for safety purposes it is absolutely fantastic. This is my humble opinion about the administration. If you are looking for a good location, safety, nice staff, service in Egham. Straits garden is the best place for student.
