I really enjoyed my time at Stratford One. The location is great, and the staff are always happy to help. During the lift outage, I even saw the tall manager picking up rubbish at around 9 p.m., which showed he genuinely cared and was leading by example. The outage was difficult, but it could have been much worse. Although many of us don’t always read emails, the team invited us to both in-person and online meetings to keep everyone informed and answer our questions, which I really appreciated. See you next year!

This place is one of the worst places I have ever stayed, extremely small rooms with little to no ventilation, this causes the summers to become incredibly hot and close to unliveable especially during a heatwave. The kitchens are fine and do the job however suffer with the same ventilation issues, this leaves the air in the kitchen smelling of stale old food as the window in there barely opens and has a huge metal grate in front which leaves nowhere for fresh air to move through the kitchen which is shared by 10 people. The "Gym" is some dumbbells, a treadmill and a cable machine, the cinema and karaoke rooms are fine but have no instructions on how to use anything in there. The other facilities are good however the experience varies during each season as you regularly find residents camping out in study rooms and common rooms due to people's apartments being extremely hot, one of our flatmates even went and stayed in a hotel for a bit as they couldn't handle their room's temperature. The only good things about the safety and anti suicide locks on the windows is that they prevent unite students revenue dropping in the summer because I would much rather be dead than have to live there through another heatwave. Even if it takes you 2 hours to commute to uni it would be a far better option than having this as it would be cheaper and way more comfortable. If you have an option to go anywhere else or even share a flat with some people it would most likely be cheaper and higher quality with less issues with bugs and rats.

Staff are pretty good, the building has nice amenities, and its in a great location. The only downside is dealing with flatmates. If you get some who think egg shells and food waste belongs on the floor instead of in the bin, you dont have really have any recourse to deal with it.

Stratford one is really a horrible place to stay first off they are liars because what you see when doing the viewing is not what you get secondly the kitchen rather than them enforcing laws for people to keep the kitchen clean they do the opposite thirdly, their welcome is very unfriendly pleaseeeeeeee. Work on your staff approach it’s shitty and give a bad experience

Extremely disappointed with the lack of support during this heatwave. I live on a high floor and the heat has been unbearable — I couldn’t sleep at all last night because of it. I emailed the accommodation team, and even emailed the manager directly, asking for a fan or any cooling equipment. Both times the only response was to suggest I go cool down on the ground floor or M floor. This completely misses the point — I’m out during the day and only come back at night to sleep. Am I supposed to sleep in the M floor common area? That doesn’t solve the actual problem, which is that my room is unbearably hot at night. What’s more, they wouldn’t even provide me with a simple fan, let alone air conditioning. Yet when I was in the ground floor reception (which has AC), I noticed the staff had desk fans provided by the accommodation sitting right on their desks. So residents are left to suffer through the heat with nothing, while staff are kept comfortable both with AC and with fans that residents were denied. I have already contacted multiple departments about this, including the manager directly, and none of them resolved the issue. So please don’t reply to this review with a generic response telling me to “contact [department]” — I have already done that repeatedly and gotten nowhere. I’m leaving this review because internal channels have failed, not because I haven’t tried them. It’s now past 4am and I’m still awake because of how hot my room is. Unite Students needs to actually provide cooling solutions for residents during heatwaves instead of empty suggestions that don’t match people’s real schedules — and instead of reserving cooling equipment for staff while residents get nothing.

⭐☆☆☆☆ (1/5) Absolutely DO NOT live here. This place is a complete disaster. For over £300 per week, you would expect at least basic living conditions. Instead, this accommodation has been one of the worst places I have ever lived. The biggest issue is the fire alarm. It goes off repeatedly at around 3 AM, forcing everyone to evacuate in the middle of the night. Even worse, the staff never deal with the problem immediately. They constantly delay fixing it, leaving residents exhausted and frustrated. The lift situation is even more ridiculous. The elevator breaks down all the time, but this time it has been out of service for more than two weeks (and counting). I live on a high floor and have had to climb the stairs every single day. What makes this unacceptable is not just the broken lift—it’s the management’s attitude. At the end of May, they told us it would be fixed within 10 days. Then, after an entire month of waiting, at the end of June, they suddenly said it might not be repaired until the end of July. Notice the word “might.” They don’t even know when it will actually be fixed. Throughout all of this, they have offered no meaningful solution, no compensation, and no alternative arrangements. They just keep delaying and making excuses while residents continue paying extremely expensive rent. Paying over £300 per week for this level of service is honestly unbelievable. There are so many better student accommodations for this price. Save yourself the stress and avoid this place at all costs.

The elevator is broken since June 3 in one of the four blocks. Now it’s still out of working. We who live in this block, even live in the 18th floor, had to climb to it everyday. Although the temperature is 35 degrees, there is no compensation, no air conditioner, no credible expiration.

The lift in this building has been out of service for more than 20 days, and the management has shown little evidence of making any meaningful progress toward fixing it. While staff repeatedly claim that they are “working on the issue,” residents receive no updates, no timeline, and no clear explanation of what is actually being done. During this entire period, I have not seen any engineers attending the site, and every time residents ask when the lift will be repaired, the answer is either vague or nonexistent. Management also advertised a food delivery assistance service for residents affected by the lift outage. However, they cannot provide any indication of when staff will be available, and they only agree to deliver cold food. In practice, this makes the service almost unusable. Without knowing when assistance is available, residents cannot realistically arrange grocery deliveries, especially for fresh produce and other perishable items. What is most frustrating is not just the broken lift itself, but the complete lack of communication, accountability, and practical support. A temporary problem can happen in any building. Leaving residents without answers for weeks while offering ineffective solutions is a management failure. For a residential building, basic accessibility and transparent communication should be the minimum standard. Unfortunately, neither has been demonstrated here.

Stratford One has perfected the art of appearing helpful while achieving absolutely nothing. Problems are acknowledged but not solved, complaints are answered but not addressed, and residents are listened to but rarely heard. After nearly a year here, my overwhelming impression is that management’s primary skill is explaining why a problem exists rather than fixing it. The building sells convenience, support and community. The lived experience is chasing updates, lowering expectations and hoping nothing goes wrong because you quickly learn how little urgency follows when it does. Do yourself a favour and find an accommodation elsewhere!

Quite honestly I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone. The one benefit was the proximity to my university, other than that, it wasn’t an enjoyable stay at all. The water from the taps and showers in the building is not safe to drink, the fire alarm goes off all the time, and when it is a real fire no one is properly informed, there’s no real evacuation plan, it’s everyone for themselves. The building just feels unsafe in so many ways. For my flat in particular, we had a singular window in our kitchen for almost our whole tenancy, although being told it was unsafe by facilities managers within the building, nothing was done about this until june of our occupancy. We were given no discounted rent or retribution. Overall, I would not recommend anyone stay here as I know i speak of a lot of others within the building!
