Because you are a renter who does not meet the landlord’s requirements to qualify for a lease. This can happen to students, foreign nationals, self-employed individuals, or really anyone with an aytpical or hard to evaluate risk profile. Generally, early check-in is not allowed. You can inquire by email if the apartment can be checked in early when the rent start date is approaching.

Apartments will be matched according to students' preferences, but there is no guarantee.
If the apartment has vacancies, you can contact the apartment to change rooms, but a room change fee may be charged.
All residents have the option of reletting their bed space if they do not plan on occupying their bed space at that time. Reletting requires the individual taking over the bed space to go through the same screening process as all other residents and signing a new lease agreement with the community in order to take over the lease for the remainder of the term. This ensures that all residents living on site meet the same qualification standards. It may have additional fees determined by the apartment management.
