You never see the Tuition Fee Loan. It goes straight to your university, so you do not need to do anything with it. The Maintenance Loan is the money you live on, and it is the one these payment dates are really about.

For a typical three-term course starting in autumn 2026:
- First instalment (autumn term): late September or early October 2026, once you have registered.

Rent Is Often Due Before Your Loan Lands
This catches many first-year students. Private halls and landlords often want rent or a deposit before term begins, but your first Maintenance Loan instalment may not land until your registration is confirmed. That gap can be a week or more.
Ways to bridge it: ask your accommodation provider whether they offer an instalment plan timed to loan dates, which many purpose-built student halls do. Keep a small cushion from summer work.
